Annihilation
Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Lovecraft visits the southern coast. The location is never given explicitly – much more is hidden than is explicitly revealed in this wonderfully dark book. I’m not a horror fan, and I’m not sure that this qualifies as such, but I loved this story. The unnamed protagonist is the classic unreliable narrator and she comes to understand that her mind is being transformed by some THING. Annihilation is the best thing I’ve read this year.
Creating Happy Characters (and People)
Much of the art of writing is about creating realistic, relatable characters. That said, not every character will be happy and well-adjusted. Amanda Patterson provides a great guide to creating happy characters that also works to create happy humans. #writingtips #happiness #AmandaPatterson
